Women's Swimwear

What Types of Women's Swimwear Are Available?

Women's swimwear includes two-piece bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, tankinis, rash vests and surfwear. The main differences are garment construction, neckline, coverage, fit and intended use.

Women's Bikini Tops

Bikini tops come in several shapes. Triangle bikinis have triangular cups, while sliding triangle designs allow the cup position to be adjusted along the band. Balconette tops have a structured, bra-inspired shape, bralettes have a distinct cropped-top silhouette, and bandeau bikinis feature a neckline that runs across the bust. Tankini tops extend further down the torso than traditional bikini tops. Selected styles also feature halter necklines, ties and adjustable straps. Support and construction vary by product.

Women's Bikini Bottoms

Bikini bottoms include classic, high-cut, cheeky, itsy, G-string, shortie, hipster and high-waisted styles. Classic bottoms generally offer more rear coverage than cheeky or itsy cuts. G-string bottoms provide minimal rear coverage, while shortie designs have a shorts-inspired silhouette. High-waisted describes the waistband position, whereas high-cut describes the leg opening. Some designs include adjustable side ties.

Women's One-Piece Swimsuits

One-piece swimsuits combine the upper and lower sections into a single garment. Styles include halter necks, strapless designs, higher necklines and selected cut-out details. A one-piece does not automatically provide full coverage, as the neckline, back and leg cut can vary significantly.

Women's Rash Vests and Surfwear

Rash vests provide an additional swimwear layer, with different sleeve lengths and designs. For surf activities, explore wetsuits and surfsuits. Wetsuits and surfsuits have different construction and coverage characteristics. Check individual product specifications for fabric thickness, thermal properties and UPF protection where stated.

Women's Board Shorts and Swim Shorts

Women's board shorts offer a shorts-style alternative for beach and water activities. The range includes different lengths, waistbands and prints. Swim shorts include other short swimwear silhouettes. Compare the leg length, waistband and product description to find your preferred cut.

How Do Bikini Fits, Cuts and Coverage Compare?

Bikini fit depends on several features. A high-waisted bikini bottom sits higher on the torso than a low-rise style, while a high-cut leg creates a higher opening around the hip. These are separate design features, and a bikini can have both.

Cheeky, itsy and G-string cuts describe different levels of rear coverage. Classic and shortie styles offer alternative silhouettes. Bikini-top shape is also separate from support: a triangle, balconette or bralette label alone does not establish how supportive a product will be.

Compare the individual swimwear item's straps, fastenings, lining, measurements and fit description rather than relying on the style name alone.

Colours, Patterns and Swimwear Design Details

City Beach's women's swimwear includes black, white, blue, pink, green, brown, red and neutral colours. The range features plain, floral, striped, tropical, animal, paisley, polka dot, tie-dye, checked and geometric patterns.

Selected designs feature ribbed textures, rings, ties, ruching, contrasting panels or reversible construction. These details vary by product, so check individual descriptions before purchasing.

How to Choose and Style Women's Swimwear

Start with where you'll wear your swimmers and the coverage you prefer. For pool days, compare bikini sets and one-pieces. For surfing or extended time outdoors, explore rash vests, board shorts and surfsuits, checking each product's stated performance features.

For a coordinated two-piece look, shop women's bikinis and pair matching colours or prints. You can also mix a printed bikini top with plain bottoms, or choose different cuts for your preferred fit.

Complete your beach outfit with a sarong or beach cover-up. Pair your swimwear with women's sandals, sunglasses or a beach bag. For casual outfits before or after swimming, explore women's shorts and summer dresses.
