History
City Beach Management Group was a business partnership formed and founded by Cary Riter in late 1991 for the development of a 23,000 square foot indoor recreational facility in Emeryville, California. Capitalized in April of 1992, City Beach Emeryville was opened for business the following October. Consisting of two beach sand courts, three hard surface sport courts, weight and fitness equipment, a restaurant cafe, City Beach Emeryville was the first prototype sport facility of its kind in the Western United States. Programs offered included leagues, classes, open play, tournaments, food & beverage service, memberships and birthday parties.
Expanding the scope of the concept into a different market area, the management group opened its second facility, City Beach Santa Clara, in October of 1994. With the two locations City Beach was the largest volleyball facility operator in the United States.
As the business grew and expanded in Santa Clara, the founding partners decided to concentrate on one site, and sold City Beach Emeryville in December of 1997. In late December and early January of 1998, City Beach Santa Clara underwent renovation as a result of its expanding corporate offsite business. City Beach Santa Clara now has five hard sport courts, an expanding weight and fitness area, a designated "party" area, an on-site bar and restaurant with cabana dining, and men's and women's locker rooms. City Beach Santa Clara is a successful business, constantly busy with corporate offsites, volleyball leagues, private instruction and open play.
With the success of City Beach Santa Clara, the company expanded the City Beach concept with the development of a new site in Fremont, California. The new site consists of 42,000 square feet including a rock climbing gym, an indoors challenge ropes course, four state-of-the-art combination volleyball/basketball/badminton courts, an entertainment center including pocket billiards, air hockey, foosball, and darts, outdoor bocce ball courts with courtyard, meeting facilities and shower change locker rooms. The facility is highlighted by a centrally located bar restaurant with outstanding décor and menu fare. This latest City Beach version allows City Beach to capture a more diversified market share and serve the both the public and private customers.
