A couple of weeks ago Laura Casey, a reporter with the Bay Area News Group, visited our City Beach Rock Club to feature in her column, Trimming Trends. Laura’s previous climbing experience consisted of a few guided trips to Joshua Tree over the last 3-4 years; she had never tried indoor climbing.

We climbed together for over an hour, and I was hopeful when she left. I was pretty sure she had a good time; however, I had to wait and see what she was going to say in her article. The next week, our Climbing Team Coach and Route Setter, Jacob Padilla, walked into my office with a newspaper and a smile. I was blown away by the nice things that Laura said about our gym. Immediately, I called my wife to ask her to buy a copy of the daily paper. Her response was an excited, “I’m way ahead of you, Honey; I’ve already bought 18 copies.”

So thank you, Laura, for your kind words. And thank you to all of our awesome members and staff that make this place so special. She enjoyed the climbing; however, I believe it was her interaction with the people here that really impressed her. We can all be proud of the wonderful things said about our beloved sport and the place were we like hang out. Check out the article if you have not already…
